چکیده
Abstract An integrated receiver storage for a beam-down concentrating solar power (CSP) plant enables simplifying the system layout and reducing costs. Here two-layer (TLIRS) design is proposed consisting of cavity packed-bed storage. The first layer porous ceramic second one rocks. To enable performance optimization system, models radiation, two-phase transient heat transfer local thermal nonequilibrium were derived validated. TLIRS was assessed characterized by absorbing, charging, discharging overall efficiencies solar-to-exergy conversion ratio. results indicate that significantly enhances absorption irradiance thus improves efficiencies. For CSP applications, potentially achieves high in repetitive charging cycles.

Concentrating Solar Power Systems
— Development of Concentrating Solar Power Systems has started about 40 years ago. A first commercial implementation was performed between 1985 and 1991 in California. However, a drop in gas prices caused a longer period without further deployment. It was overcome in 2007 when new incentive schemes for renewables in Spain and the US enabled a commercial restart. In 2016, almost 100 commercial C...
متن کاملThermal energy storage for CSP (Concentrating Solar Power)
— The major advantage of concentrating solar power before photovoltaic is the possibility to store thermal energy at large scale allowing dispatchability. Then, only CSP solar power plants including thermal storage can be operated 24 h/day using exclusively the solar resource. Nevertheless, due to a too low availability in mined nitrate salts, the actual mature technology of the two tanks molte...
متن کاملConcentrating solar thermal power.
In addition to wind and photovoltaic power, concentrating solar thermal power (CSP) will make a major contribution to electricity provision from renewable energies. Drawing on almost 30 years of operational experience in the multi-megawatt range, CSP is now a proven technology with a reliable cost and performance record. In conjunction with thermal energy storage, electricity can be provided ac...
متن کاملConcentrating Solar Power
DESCRIPTION Concentrating Solar Power (CSP), also referred to as solar thermal power, uses mirrors to concentrate the sun's rays to heat a fluid that is then used to generate electricity, often using conventional steam turbines. There are three primary CSP technologies: parabolic trough, solar tower, and dish engine. The most common CSP system is the parabolic trough, which uses curved mirrors ...
متن کاملModeling On-sun Tests of a Prototype Solid Particle Receiver for Concentrating Solar Power Processes and Storage
A model has been developed to simulate the performance of a prototype solid particle receiver that was recently tested at Sandia National Laboratories. The model includes irradiation from the concentrated solar flux, two-band re-radiation and emission with the cavity, discrete-phase particle transport and heat transfer, gas-phase convection, wall conduction, and radiative and convective heat lo...
